Do you want to explore God and beauty in a way you have never thought about before or anchor yourself more fully in your United Methodist identity? Want to talk with others about stuff that matters and connect with other good folks here at Glenn? Well, do I have some deals for you.
We’re about to kick off two new fall offerings for spiritual formation and growth. There’s no cost or required book for either option.
God and Beauty: The Uncanny
Wednesdays, September 11- October 9, 7 p.m. in Room 208
Hosted by Mark Westmoreland and led by Dr. David Pacini, Professor Emeritus of Historical and Philosophical Theology
“One thing I have asked of the Lord, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.” –Psalm 27:4
“How beautiful is thy dwelling place! –Psalm 84
The psalmist links beauty with God and God’s tabernacling among us. How might we understand the Psalmist’s invocation? What, after all, do we mean by beauty, and how is it associated with God and God’s gracious reign? Indeed, what bearing does beauty have on our lives?
Together we’ll view how artists have depicted the beauty of God through the ages; we will explore classical and modern conceptions of beauty and the theological understanding of God and beauty in Christian tradition. Finally, we will consider how God’s ineffable, uncanny beauty is manifest in our faithful gathering. Contact Mark Westmoreland (mwestmoreland@glennumc.org) to register or with any questions. Please let us know if you are interested in a Zoom option. Childcare is available upon request.
We’re excited about these new small-group experiences. If you have questions about other small-group offerings here at Glenn, contact Brent Huckaby at the email address above or call the church office. Brent will be glad to fill you in on ways you can connect with others and grow in grace.
