Ways to Get Involved

We have a need for bus drivers! 

Now that we have begun relaxing our Covid protocols, we have resumed our bus pickups at Clairmont Place and Wesley Woods for Sunday morning worship and for other Glenn events and activities.  If you are interested in helping,  all it takes is a valid driver’s license, a clean background check, and a brief training.  For additional information, contact Susan Pinson - spinson@glennumc.org or Rick Smith - ricksmme@gmail.com 

Ukraine - We continue to be shocked and grieve the tragedies unfolding in Ukraine. Our own United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is receiving donations to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.  100% of the donations go toward the cause.  If you want to know more, here is a link: How to assist the Ukrainian people - Global Ministries (umcmission.org) 

Giving Thanks

A Reflection from Jimmy Moor
 

This last year has been a challenging one on several fronts in my family. A practice that has helped me through this time has been taking a few moments at the end of the day to note where grace has been present in my life that day. Sometimes I do this as I am getting in bed preparing to sleep. I am often amazed at how many blessings are part of my life when I take the time to name them. Some items are big. Some small. Many ordinary. Some days the list is longer than other days. But grace is always there, and it has helped me to be intentionally aware of its presence in my life. 

As an example, here is some of what I noted on a recent Monday:

*My wife has struggled with back pain for several months. A stimulator was implanted in her back a couple of weeks ago. Monday afternoon it was turned on, and she was feeling relief before we left the doctor’s office. Grateful for doctors, technology, and technicians that work together to ease pain. 

*We have had many friends and colleagues walk with us as Julie has dealt with this pain and other issues. Several knew about yesterday’s doctor visit and checked in to see how she was doing. A blessing. 

*I walked around our cul de sac later that afternoon. A young adult neighbor saw me and came out of his house to ask about Julie. He told me, not for the first time, that he and his wife were praying for us, and ended our conversation by saying, “If you need anything let us know.” That’s a good neighbor. 

*I had to have some work done on an old pick up truck at Meineke near North DeKalb Mall. My son and I went to pick up the truck. The mechanic was an older fellow named Allen. He was friendly, funny, and honest. Our paths may never cross again, but when I left the shop I was grateful for how he made that experience better than it might have been. 

*My cashier at Publix was friendly and courteous. 

*I have food, shelter, clothing, and transportation. I try not to take these things for granted, because I know many do not have them. 

*I was challenged and helped by items in my devotional time.
