Scouting
Girl Scout / Brownie / Daisy TroopsCurrently 8 different troops of Girl Scouts, Brownies and Daisies meet at Glenn Memorial. The Girls Scouts are chartered through Fernbank Elementary. Boy Scout Troop 18Our troop's charter goes back to 1925, which means we were one of the first troops in DeKalb County. Troop 18 prides itself on conducting 10 to 12 outings a year, with crews headed every summer to one of BSA’s four High Adventure Camps around the country. We are a boy led troop where the boys decide our program with responsible adult oversight. Our trips typically include canoeing, hiking, camping, caving, climbing, skiing, and more. Every summer the troop goes to one week of summer camp.
We meet on Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 in the Scout Hut behind the Glenn Youth and Activities Building at 1669 North Decatur Road. All members of the troop, scout leaders, and any interested parents or future scouts are welcome to attend! A boy must be 11 years old and in the fifth grade to join a Scout Troop. Dues are $96.00 per year, payable during the re-charter period in December. Dues are prorated for boys joining during the year. Troop 18 does not turn away any boy interested in the scouting experience for lack of funds. Scholarships are available. If you are interested in joining our troop, please come visit us during one of our meetings so that you can get a sense of whether Troop 18 is for you. Anyone wanting further information may contact Dave Speno, at 404-321-1696 or davidspeno@gmail.com, or any member of the Troop. Cub Scouts Pack 6The Cub Scout Motto is, “Do Your Best!” In Pack 6, we have fun with our sons while helping them grow and learn with an emphasis on Character Development, Good Citizenship, Sportsmanship & Fitness and Personal Achievement!
Our Pack has been continuously chartered since 1940 but a typical Cub Scouting year in our modern era includes:
Pack 6 is for any boy age 6 to 10 (first through 5th grades) and while most of our Cubs live in the Fernbank Elementary we have several participants from beyond the area. Pack 6 does not turn away any boy interested in the scouting experience for lack of funds (scholarships are available).
We welcome all boys and their families! For additional information about Pack 6, please contact our Cubmaster, Jeff Kilpatrick (Eagle Scout '78) at cubmaster@pack6atl.org or visit our website here: http://pack6atl.org/aboutus. Recycling to Benefit the Boy ScoutsA new green and red recycling bin for newspapers, magazines, etc. has been placed in the YAAB parking lot. This is not for trash but for newspapers, etc. If you have questions please call the church office at 404-634-3936.
