Loving God, Loving Neighbor
Welcome to the Glenn School
On behalf of the Glenn School Board, I am very pleased to announce the selection of Cherry Payne as our new Director, effective January 1, 2014.
Cherry holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Georgia Southern and a master's degree in elementary education from West Georgia College. She comes to us with a wealth of managerial experience in the preschool arena. Her early teaching experience began in Cobb County. She then became Director of Children’s Ministries for Northside United Methodist Preschool. This led her to becoming the Director of the Northside United Methodist Preschool, followed by the position of Director of The Cathedral Preschool in Buckhead. In addition to this experience, Cherry has worked as a “Preschool Program Evaluator for the National Association for the Education of Young Children.” Most recently, she has served as an administrator at The Goddard School in Midtown.
A Cathedral Preschool parent observed: "My experience in working with Cherry as a Parents’ Council Co-Chair has been nothing short of exceptional. Cherry has always been professional in our dealings, supportive of our ideas and appreciative of our efforts."
A teacher under Cherry's leadership reported: "Due to her astute guidance, vision and dedication to the students, the school has achieved the status of a leading academic preschool in the metropolitan Atlanta area...Not only did Cherry work towards creating an environment that balanced curriculum as well as personal child growth, she was always cognizant of the importance of the role of the classroom teacher. Her “Open Door” policy with the staff was instrumental in developing and fostering a close-knit environment for those who worked at the school. The constant support and encouragement the teachers received during her tenure was a source of great comfort to those who worked for her."
Cherry is very excited to be joining The Glenn School community and will hit the ground running. Cherry says of this opportunity with The Glenn School: "At this juncture in my life, I am very excited to embark on a new adventure with The Glenn School. As your new Director, I know there will be many fun and thrilling adventures ahead. Working with children is a true love of mine, and I look forward to doing so at Glenn. Please be assured that my door is always open for suggestions, concerns, conversation and coffee."
We are looking forward to the opportunity for you to meet Cherry at a reception in early January. We all wish Harriet our best and are deeply grateful for her leadership over the last seven years. And now, we will continue to work toward a bright future for the children of The Glenn School under new and capable leadership!
