United Methodist Children's Home Volunteer Opportunity! You can be a part of something BIG this summer by serving as a reading volunteer for Jesse’s House, a ministry of UMCH! Each day (Monday through Thursday) of the summer, each child gets one-on-one reading time with an adult. This cannot happen without dedicated volunteers like you. What’s more fun than sitting in a room filled with children and your closest friends while enjoying a good book? Groups can sign up to cover one week’s worth of reading volunteers. Individuals can sign up to serve weekly or daily for a week or more. Reading time takes place from 10a.m.-12 noon Monday - Thursday, June 3rd- July 25th, with a 9:30a.m. volunteer orientation on the first day of volunteering. Please contact the volunteer coordinator, Sarah Paxton, at spaxton@umchildrenshome.org. And thank you for helping these precious children!
Intown Collaborative Ministries (ICM) Food Pantry Needs YouIn addition to financial support and food donations, Glenn had been asked to help support the ICM Food Pantry by signing up volunteers to work at the pantry on Saturday mornings. You are welcome to sign up as individuals on any given Saturday, but Glenn will send a large group of volunteers 4 Saturdays in 2013. The dates that Glenn is responsible for are January 19th, March 9th, May 4th, and September 7th (which is Good Neighbor Day). We need 12 volunteers to help each of these Saturdays from 10:15 to 12:30ish. The food pantry is located at Druid Hills UMC, at the corner of Ponce and Briarcliff.
You may also help ICM by volunteering to pack special packages of groceries each Friday afternoon. 2-3 people are needed to come to Druid Hills United Methodist Church after 2:30 pm but before 4:00 pm. The team will package approx. 20 bags of groceries which will be distributed on Saturday morning. The exercise will take about 1 hour. If you are interested, send your name and email address to the Pantry Leader, Gene Lewis at gene1950@gmail.com. You don't have to be available every Friday to participate. This is an ideal opportunity for a team of friends who might like to volunteer together once a month or more often. Youth are welcome with an adult. Families are always welcome, too. Perfect for those who can't come on Saturday! Yogli-Mogli Worship Bulletin DiscountEach Sunday, Yogli-Mogli at Emory Village offers a %15 discount on your frozen yogurt purchases when you show your Glenn Memorial UMC worship bulletin from any of our three services. Must be presented on the same Sunday. Special thanks to our friendly neighbors at Yogli Mogli for their support - stay tuned for seasonal Yogli-Mogli Spirit Nights where proceeds benefit Glenn ministries!
Ministry Opportunity at Montclair Retirement HomeEach 1st & 3rd Sunday at 4pm, Glenn Church hosts a short devotional/sing-a-long/worship/Scripture reading/Prayers etc. (or any combination!). Music is optional, but preferred. This can be adult or children led – as simple as singing a few songs and reading a prayer or as “formal” as planning a service with a homily and serving Communion (available through our Homebound Communion ministry). The residents (approximately 20 in the dayroom) range in age from 75-100+ with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments. The “service” can be as casual or as formal as you’d like – ranging from 20 minutes to a full hour. Click here to sign up to help on a Sunday – feel free to sign up as individuals or a group – or contact Rev. Susan Pinson spinson@glennumc.org.
