Reconciling Ministries Conversation and Survey

In 2011 a group of retired United Methodist bishops wrote a letter supporting the removal of language from the Discipline that discriminates against homosexuals. Glenn Memorial responded with the formation of the Common Table, a group of Glenn members and staff that met weekly to discuss whether to publicly support the letter. After almost a year of meetings, Glenn Memorial drafted a letter of support (see below) and established the Glenn Rainbow Advocacy group to discern Glenn’s continuing role regarding the issue of homosexuality in the church. Recently three listening and learning sessions were held to discuss the possibility of becoming a partner of the Reconciling Ministries Network.

If you have further questions or comments you may direct them to Rev. Josh Amerson.

Baptisms & Membership

Interested in baptism for yourself or children and "officially" joining our church family at Glenn? We welcome you! Membership and baptisms are as simple as prayerful consideration, conversations of intention, an easy form to fill out, coordinating calendars, and WELCOMING you and your family into the church. Feel free to contact any of our ministers, including Senior Pastor Alice Rogers, or simply contact Sara LaDew in the church office at 404-634-3936.

Proposed Capital Campaign Plan Options - Report from Coxe-Curry

As Glenn UMC grows and looks to the future, all are invited to view and share feedback on the feasibility of the proposed campaign plan – click here to review the proposed plans. The final report summarizing the results of Coxe-Curry's feasibility study is now available for review.

UPDATE: The Church Council and the Board of Trustees have named a Steering Committee to finalize a recommendation to Glenn about a capital campaign. The recommendation from the committee involves choosing from the possible projects which were suggested during the Coxe Curry study, obtaining more detailed plans and better estimates for the capital projects chosen, setting the monetary goals for a campaign and deciding on the timing of a campaign. Members of the Steering Committee include representatives from many Glenn committees, such as the Altar Guild, Environmental, Missions and others, so that as many interests of Glenn members can be considered as is possible.

Volunteer at Glenn

We invite volunteers of all ages to “get plugged in” through mission and ministry with hands-on projects, leadership opportunities, and other ways of sharing your gifts of time and service.  The Body of Christ – the church – is made of many people with many gifts, so THANK YOU for sharing yours! Click here to fill out the volunteer interest form or to sign up for a specific Glenn sponsored service project.

Intown Collaborative Ministries (ICM) Food Pantry Needs You

In addition to financial support and food donations, Glenn had been asked to help support the ICM Food Pantry by signing up volunteers to work at the pantry on Saturday mornings. You are welcome to sign up as individuals on any given Saturday, but Glenn will send a large group of volunteers 4 Saturdays in 2014. The final date that Glenn is responsible for is September 6 (which is Good Neighbor Day). We need 12 volunteers to help from 10:15 to 12:30ish. The food pantry is located at Druid Hills UMC, at the corner of Ponce and Briarcliff.

You may also help ICM by volunteering to pack special packages of groceries each Friday afternoon. 2-3 people are needed to come to Druid Hills United Methodist Church after 2:30 pm but before 4:00 pm. The team will package approx. 20 bags of groceries which will be distributed on Saturday morning. The exercise will take about 1 hour. If you are interested, send your name and email address to the Pantry Leader, Laura Cushing at llcushing@gmail.com. You don't have to be available every Friday to participate. This is an ideal opportunity for a team of friends who might like to volunteer together once a month or more often. Youth are welcome with an adult. Families are always welcome, too. Perfect for those who can't come on Saturday!
